Butter Button Cookies
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons softened butter
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups flour
Preheat oven to 350º. Cream together 3/4 cup of the butter and the sugar. Gradually work in the flour. Add the rest of the butter and mix until combined. Roll the dough into balls and line them up on a baking sheet. Flatten them slightly with your hands and then press them down a little with the top of a bottle. Poke four holes with the end of a paintbrush. Bake for about 17 minutes or just until the edges begin to brown.
When the cookies have cooled, you can dip the bottom in melted chocolate, melted frosting (like from a can), or browned butter glaze (recipe follows). Then roll it in some sprinkles and let harden on some parchment paper.
Browned Butter Glaze
Brown 3/4 cup of butter in a small saucepan on the stove. Be careful not to burn it. It will get foamy right before it starts to brown. Let it cool. Then add a teaspoon of vanilla. Add about 1/4 cup of powdered sugar at a time until desired consistency is reached. If it gets too thick, add 1/2 tablespoon of milk.
